Polygons and irregular spaces
Trace L-shaped shops and irregular floor boundaries, finish an outline cleanly, and correct its corners.
When to use Polygon · P
Use Polygon when an outline needs more than four corners: an L-shaped shop, a recessed entrance or an irregular floor base. Choose the same Space, Anchor store, Food / dining or Floor presets used by Rectangle.
Trace and finish an outline
- Choose Polygon or press P. Pick the preset before placing the first point.
- Click each corner in order around the outside boundary. Work clockwise or anticlockwise consistently; do not jump across the shape.
- Hold Shift when you need the next segment to stay horizontal or vertical. Use snapping to join existing corners or follow a guide.
- With at least three points, press Enter, choose Finish, or click the first corner to close the shape.
- The completed shape becomes selected. Set its height, place name and label, then check Preview.
Correct a corner or cancel
| While drawing | What happens |
|---|---|
| Delete or Backspace | Removes the last unfinished point so you can place it again. |
| Escape or Cancel | Discards the unfinished outline. |
| Enter or Finish | Closes a valid outline with at least three points. |
| Switch to another tool | Cancels the unfinished outline; completed objects remain. |
After finishing, use Select to move a corner or switch to Edit points & curves for more control. Add point inserts a new corner into an edge. Remove point joins neighbouring corners with a straight edge.
Keep the outline valid
- Avoid edges crossing one another, including the final edge back to the first point.
- Do not place every point along the same line. A shape needs area.
- Avoid repeated clicks at almost the same position; use fewer, deliberate corners.
- Use a curve handle after finishing if the boundary bends smoothly. You do not need dozens of tiny straight segments to imitate a curve.
Start without pointer drawing
Choose Polygon and Add at centre for a starting shape. Then use the inspector and Edit points & curves controls to adjust it. With canvas focus, ↑ / ↓ / ← / → move the selected point or edge; Shift uses a larger step.
