Build your map
Places, categories and labels
Give visitors useful information and make destinations easy to identify on the map.
Edit a place’s information
A shape describes where something is; a place holds the information about it. For example, a shop’s outline can link to its name, description and website. Several objects can link to the same place.
- Select the object on the map and open Place details, or find the record in Places mode.
- Fill in the fields available in its current template. Use clear visitor-facing names and concise descriptions.
- Use Linked place to connect an existing place to an object and control whether visitors can select it.
- Open Preview, search for the place, and select it to check the visitor card. Save when you are happy with the result.
Use categories consistently
Assign a category in Place details or Geometry → Label. Categories supply shared label defaults such as colour, icon and floating or surface style. A shape’s fill colour is a separate setting.
- Owners and admins can open Settings → Categories to add or rename categories and choose their defaults.
- Assign a suitable category to each place, such as Food & drink for a café.
- Archive categories you no longer need for new assignments. Existing places keep their archived category; it can be restored later.
Style and position labels
- Select a space and open Label. Choose the field displayed on the map; it can differ from the name in the place card.
- Choose a surface label to place text on the space, or a floating label to keep it above the map.
- Use the category defaults or override colour, icon and size for this label.
- Drag the label text to reposition it within the space, or use Move label and the position fields. Reset label position finds a suitable position again.
Press T to move the selected label with the keyboard. ↑ / ↓ / ← / → move it 0.1 m; Shift + ↑ / ↓ / ← / → moves it 1 m. Escape finishes label editing. In this mode, Delete removes the label rather than the whole space.
