Draw paths, roads and trails
Choose a path type and width, draw connected sections with rounded joins, then bend or branch them.
Choose a type and width · J
Choose Path or press J. Use the Path type picker for Walkway, Road or Trail, then set Width in metres before drawing. The same tool places all three types.
| Type | Starting width | Appearance |
|---|---|---|
| Walkway | 2.4 m | A light grey surface for pedestrian routes. |
| Road | 5.5 m | A charcoal surface with white dashes down the centre. |
| Trail | 1.4 m | An earthy brown surface for informal outdoor paths. |
Width must be greater than 0 and no more than 20 m. Each type remembers its own toolbar width on this device. Changing the toolbar affects the next sections you draw. To change an existing section, select it and edit Path width in Geometry.
Draw connected sections and rounded joins
- Choose the floor, path type and width.
- Click the start and first endpoint, or drag to draw the first section.
- Continue clicking endpoints to extend the run. Each click adds a separate section. Hold Shift to constrain the next section horizontally or vertically.
- Press Enter, choose Finish run or press Escape once to finish. Completed sections stay on the map and Path stays active for another run. Press S to return to Select.
Connected turns have rounded outside corners, or fillets. Earlier joins stay rounded as you add more sections. Roads show white centre dashes in the drawing canvas and the visitor preview, including along bent sections.
Use Point snapping to meet an existing endpoint. Clicking the first endpoint of the current run closes the loop and finishes it. Undo removes the most recent section.
Bend a path or add a branch
- Finish the run, press S and select the section you want to bend.
- Press B for Edit points & curves. Drag its round edge handle to bend the section while keeping its endpoints in place. Square handles move its endpoints.
- To remove a bend, select the curved edge and choose Straighten edge.
- To branch, choose Path again and enable Edge snapping. Start a new run on an existing path’s centre line, then click outwards to draw the branch. You can also finish a new run on an existing path.
Joins require matching endpoints or a branch meeting a centre line, on the same floor and at the same elevation. Each section can be edited independently. If you move an endpoint away from a neighbour, snap it back to restore the join. Add point and Remove point apply to polygons; extend a path by drawing another section.
Adjust appearance and preview
- Select a section and use Geometry for its position, Path width, Length, Height, Elevation, Colour, Opacity and Floor.
- Changing an existing section’s Path type applies that type’s starting width, height and colour. Set any custom values after changing the type.
- For keyboard placement, choose Path and use Add at centre, then adjust the section in Geometry or Edit points & curves.
- Check the live 3D preview or Preview tab, then Save. Publish when the updated map is ready for visitors.
Paths provide visual context. They appear in the visitor map without a selectable place card or label, and do not create automatic route directions.
